                                     Awareness Seminar Addressed to the ISF
                    “  The Right of the Handicapped Person to Transportation and Fitted Environment”

 
Within Afkar II program, funded by EU and managed by OMSAR, the Forum of the Handicapped in North Lebanon held on Monday, the 17th of March 2008, in the ISF’s General Directorate Training Institute in Warwar, a seminar, titled “The Right of the Handicapped Person to Transportation and Fitted Environment”, aiming at raising awareness among the Internal Security Forces.

                                    


The seminar, attended by 240 elements of the ISF, was organized with the cooperation of the ISF’s General Directorate, with a view of raising awareness among the Internal Security Forces regarding the disability issue in general, law 220/2000 relevant to the rights of the handicapped persons, as well as the difficulties the disabled persons face because of the non-assertion of their rights, including the right relevant to their transportation, which stipulates the respect of parking spaces and passageways dedicated to the disabled persons.

This seminar comes within the project “Model of the Implementation Strategies of the Preliminary Articles of Law 220/2000”, within the program “The Right of the Handicapped Person to Transportation and Fitted Environment”, which includes many activities, such as the architectural rehabilitation of the main streets of Tripoli and Mina, the issuance of special disability parking permits in order to facilitate the transportation of the handicapped persons without obstructions, the rehabilitation of the mosques and churches, in order to enable them to practice their religious rituals, the rehabilitation of tourism locations to ensure their right to entertainment, and the organization of seminars within the municipalities with a view of raising awareness among the Internal Security Forces and the municipal police regarding the right of the handicapped persons to transportation and fitted environment.

It is worth mentioning that the Forum of the Handicapped in North Lebanon concluded an agreement with the General Directorate of the ISF, aiming at organizing periodic seminars addressed to the ISF.
