LADE : "Towards an independent media ethics council in Lebanon"
The Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections (LADE) launched its project entitled “An Independent Committee for a Media Ethics Code” within the framework of the AFKAR II program for strengthening the Lebanese civil society, which is funded by EU and managed by OMSAR. This event was held at the Grand Serail and was attended by Minister of Information Ghazi Aridi, Minister of State for Administrative Reform Jean Oghassabian, and the Head of the Delegation of the European Commission in Lebanon, Ambassador Patrick Laurent.

On this occasion, speeches were said by AFKAR program coordinator Youmna Ghorayeb, LADE general
secretary Walid Fakhreddine, and LADE deputy general secretary Yara Nassar.
Ambassador Laurent:
Then Ambassador Laurent declared that “the EU support to this project proves our commitment to strengthen the Lebanese civil society, respect political and civic rights, and reinforce the Rule of Law through dialogue and related activities.”
Minister Oghassabian:
As for minister Oghassabian, he stated that one of this project’s strengths is its aim to gather journalists from different trends under one ethics code, which they participate in setting up, in view of reaching a fourth power characterized by objectivity, integrity, and the responsibility of promoting political and social awareness, and supporting democracy.
Minister Aridi:
In his speech, Minister Aridi stressed that the non-application of the audio-visual media law is not solely restricted to media institutions but also concerns the State, which did not always apply it either. “I believe that the return to the application of the law constitutes a guarantee for all stakeholders, despite all the comments made on this law. This is why we must work on amending it, since this law is a source of protection”.
