Gender Awareness in School Books
“Seeking a Generation That Believes in Women”
Within the framework of the AFKAR II project, which is funded by EU and managed by OMSAR, the Committee for the Follow Up on Women’s Issues (CFUWI) organized its fourth 3-day training workshop for teachers about Gender Awareness in School Books in Lebanon on 14 October 2007.

This workshop tackled various practical and theoretical issues and witnessed the participation of specialists and experts in women’s issues. Interventions focused on the importance of integrating Gender in the educational policy (curricula and books).
In her speech, CFUWI president Aman Shaarani reaffirmed the role of education in creating a generation that believes in woman as a human being in addition to human rights as a whole. She also expressed CFUWI’s ambition to influence the decision-making process in the education field regarding the amendment of school books with teachers, writers, and school directors, in order to modify the perception of future generations regarding gender equality and respect of differences.
